MIDDLETON, Idaho (CBS2) — The Middleton School District reports that schools have returned to normal operations following a gas line explosion in Middleton.
Mill Creek Elementary and Middleton Heights Elementary schools were the biggest concern following the explosion due to their proximity. Students remained inside buildings at both schools during the emergency situation and the school district remained in close contact with emergency responders and Williams Pipeline.
Emergency services and Williams Pipeline have deemed it safe for Middleton students to remain in school for the rest of the day and school will be released at normal times.
“As a school district, we understand these situations cause concern for parents,” Superintendent Marc Gee said. “Today’s efforts required coordination between multiple agencies (fire, police, school district, and gas entities). While we understand the desire to have as much information as possible, our first priority is to keep staff and students safe. Our district has an emergency operations plan and the team put it in place to coordinate our response efforts today.”
